About

In keeping with the goal of bringing together culture and neuroscience to the study of human behavior more generally, and mental health more specifically. Dr. Robert Lemelson and The Foundation for Psychocultural Research (The FPR) have expanded the funding of FPR-UCLA Center for Culture, Brain, and Development (CBD) to include a new program in Culture, Brain, Development, and Mental Health (CBDMH).

The primary objective of the CBDMH, which is co-directed by psychological anthropologist Douglas Hollan of UCLA and clinical psychologist Steven Lopez of USC, is to establish a strong program in cultural psychiatry, with an emphasis on integrating neuroscience and social science perspectives. The research initiative is organized around ongoing, sustainable field sites and programs in three international locations: Costa Rica, Mexico and India.. A training component is embedded within each of the ongoing research projects.
